Album art cover project by Jackie Wilson

When I was looking for Album Covers that might inspire me for my Album Art Cover project I tried to look at artists that I liked and listened to. As I listen to a wide range of music I tried to narrow it down to 3 so as not to over complicate things.
1. David Bowie
2. Eurythmics/Annie Lennox
3. Florence and the Machine
I like that they are portraits of the artists themselves
I like that they are either limited in colour or are very colourful

David Bowie
Artist: Mile Marjanovic
Pyrography (wood burning)
From the 2008 series "Portraits of musicians"
I like the earthy tones
scratch mark texture

I like the brush strokes in the hair
Minimal outline in the face

I like the use of negative space
I like the use of bold randomly placed colour and the splotches of white like it's a painting

I like how it looks hand drawn
The use of the name how it has a solid form and how it's also placed
I like the use of minimal colour

Another great portrait by Artist: Mile Marjanovic

I like the font and where it's placed

I like the line markings in this image

I like the wall paper background effect

Into the first couple of weeks this is what I produced as an Album Cover I didn't even know how to put it on the mock up cover.

I do not feel very confident with photoshop but as this was a first attempt at this sort of project I think I'm pleased how the album art turned out.
There is definitely room for improvement.
I found a wallpaper pattern that I liked and changed the opacity in the face and for the background of the cover.
I made the hat a solid colour using it as a contrast against the wallpaper pattern.
As most of the album covers I looked up of Florence and the machine used very similar font which I liked I decided to keep this and placed it similarly to how it's placed on other albums.
Most of the albums are portrait and so I kept with the same theme.
Florence is well known for her red hair and again it was something I wanted to stand out for the album cover. I tried using a few ideas from the album covers I looked out to produce this end album cover.

This was the original picture that I choose for the Album cover. A great frontal portrait of Florence
with good negative space that I can use.
The wallpaper that I used for the background.
The font that I used

I realised with the help of Kendra that because I hadn't coloured in the face the background wallpaper showed through and I kind of liked the effect so I turned down the opacity until I was happy with how it looked.

The end product

A screen shot of the working outs. I've realised after I made this album cover the importance of layers which I feel I didn't use properly however I think it has been a great learning kerb.
